Pilates Instructor Bios

Ineke Rush Madsen began her training in Pilates at the age of 12 in New York City with Carola Trier, a colleague and student of Joseph Pilates, whom she trained with extensively.  She
simultaneously trained at the School of the Dance Theatre of Harlem where the syllabus was influenced by Kathy Grant.

After a 10 year career as a professional ballet and modern dancer (Dance Theatre of Harlem, Cleveland San Jose Ballet, Ballethnic Dance Company, Cleveland Contemporary Dance Theatre),  Ineke pursued her Pilates Certification with STOTT PILATES®.  She is fully certified to work with all levels as well as those with post rehab injuries and other special conditions.  She has been an Instructor Trainer since 2004, and was designated Lead Instructor Trainer in 2016.  She has taught the STOTT PILATES certification courses and workshops all over the Bay Area, Northern California, and in Reno, Nevada.

Ineke is certified by the American Council on Exercise as a Personal Trainer and is licensed by the State Medical Board of Ohio in Massage Therapy.  She holds a certificate to teach Total Barre and is a Total Barre Instructor Trainer for Merrithew, Inc.  She is currently working toward her 200 hour RYT (Yoga) certification.

In 2006 Ineke opened Mindful Movement Collective in Newark, California, a movement and wellness center which became a STOTT PILATES Licensed Training Center in 2008.  She opened a second  location in Pleasant Hill, California, in 2017.  She teaches at both locations and is also on faculty at Ohlone College in Fremont and Newark, California, in both the Kinesiology and Theatre and Dance Departments.

Gail Lewis became a group exercise instructor and ACE certified personal trainer in 1995 before being introduced to Pilates.  All the pieces came together when she received her Full Level Two Certification as a STOTT PILATES® Instructor in 2004.  Her body moved as a whole.  It was empowering to apply the principles and move with sense of well being.  She became a Gold Certified Instructor by the Pilates Method Alliance in 2005.  In 2008, Gail achieved STOTT PILATES® Instructor Trainer status and currently teaches Mat, Reformer, Cadillac, Chair and Barrels courses.  She is also a ZEN*GA™, Total Barre™ and CORE™ Instructor Trainer for Merrithew™.  Gail complemented her pilates training with yoga teacher training courses with David Swenson, Kofi Busia and Doug Swenson.  Gail is a Legal Assistant with a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Santa Clara University.

Adriana Marrelli has been a full time professional dancer her entire adult life and has recently become a first time mother.  She has experience in yoga, ballet, weightlifting, and floor barre.  She is a STOTT PILATES trained instructor and draws on all of her movement education and background in her teaching.  She enjoys sharing and working with individuals who want to have a deeper understanding of their body’s fullest potential and embrace a way of moving that facilitates being injury-free.

Yumi Kobayashi has a ballet background and began practicing Pilates in Chicago in 2006.  She quickly fell in love with the way it benefited her active lifestyle.  Yumi believes that strengthening and toning the core with Pilates leads to a healthy body and mind.  She is enthusiastic about helping her clients build body awareness and improving their quality of life.

Yumi graduated from Western Michigan University with a Bachelor of Arts degree.  She is STOTT PILATES Certified and is working toward her specialty certificate in Pilates for Pre/Post-Natal and Rehabilitation.

Smadar Sweiry was first interested in Pilates because of her own back problem and was amazed to learn how Pilates improves injuries and posture.  In 2011, she was licensed as a Pilates Mat Instructor and taught in Israel before moving to California in 2013.  She is STOTT PILATES Certified and a mother of two and enjoys staying active with Pilates, hiking, and yoga.

Jenny Smith-Grandbois is a STOTT PILATES trained instructor.  She also is an Instructional Designer and Wellness Coordinator at University of California, Berkeley.  She graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Washington State University in History, Sociology and Anthropology.  She likes to create a warm and welcoming environment with some laughter in the mix to make working out fun.  She is living her dream of using Pilates to promote positive body image and making the community around her healthier.

Meltem Oner trained in classical ballet from the age of five.  As a young adult, she transitioned to Salsa and Argentine Tango which she has both performed and taught.  She discovered Pilates as a practice to help strengthen and condition her body both as a performer and in her every day existence and immediately became passionate about the work.  After a year of self-practice, she completed the Instructor Training at the Academy of Seratonin Pilates in Turkey and has been an instructor since 2016. She has completed the STOTT PILATES Intensive Mat Plus and Intensive Reformer courses and is on track to become a fully certified STOTT PILATES Instructor.  Having recently relocated to the United States, she is enjoying teaching Pilates and helping people be healthy.  Meltem is a graduate of Istanbul Technical University with a degree in Industrial Engineering and has worked as an engineer for several companies, but after having a daughter in 2017, she is happy to be focusing on her Pilates career.

Annali Rose is a fully certified STOTT PILATES Instructor and a STOTT PILATES Certified Instructor Trainer in Mat and Reformer.

Annali began her Pilates journey at the beginning of her eighteen year professional ballet career.  She found Pilates instrumental as a form of cross training that provided her with strength and support within the hyper mobility and dynamic physical demands of her work as a dancer.  As a teacher, she loves the Stott Pilates approach because of its accessibility, attention to detail, integrity to the original work of Joseph Pilates and its power to support and transform the human body as we manage the demands of daily life.  She greatly enjoys working with her clients on their individual goals and helping them feel empowered through movement.

In addition, Annali is a Level One Certified GYROKINESIS® and GYROTONIC® Instructor.  She finds the GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM® METHOD to be a complementary system of movement to Pilates.  She is happy to share all of her movement knowledge to help assist your journey in your own body.  As well, she is completing her Bachelor of Arts degree from Saint Mary's College of California.

Amie Wang came across Pilates years ago while traveling as a consultant. It was the first time she fell in love with a movement method. Fast forward a decade and two kids later, life presented an opportunity for Amie to embark on her movement education journey. While working towards her Pilates certification, Amie was introduced to GYROTONIC® Exercises. After one session she was hooked! The spiral and multi-planar motions in GYROTONIC® Exercises complemented Amie’s Pilates practice beautifully in improving her body awareness and deepening her understanding of movement mechanics.

Amie obtained her STOTT PILATES certification in 2013 while living abroad in Singapore. She is also a certified GYROTONIC® Apprentice. Since then, movement education has become her passion. Amie pays special attention to alignment in her teaching and has special training to work with prenatal and postpartum women, and kids. Her mission is to share her passion and knowledge with clients and help them develop body awareness and movement practices to lead active and play-filled lives.

Pilates and GYROTONIC® Exercises keep Amie fit and strong to be active with her two energetic and life-loving boys. To satiate her curiosity of the body and its capacity for movement, she has taken the Feldenkrais Method, Move Your DNA (Nutritious Movement) and GYROKINESIS® workshops.
